Experience

The Egyptian Liver Research Institute And Hospital (ELRIAH) is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization, founded in 2011 , located about 150 km northeast of Cairo, 20 km from Mansoura, Daqhalia Governorate. ELRIAH is a subsidiary of the Association of Liver Patients Care (ALPC), a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1995, registered in 1997 with number 817 in Al-Daqahliah, Egypt . ALPC is a founding member of the European Liver Patients Association (ELPA) and participated effectively in the establishment of the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA), composed of more than 170 organizations which work in the field of viral hepatitis.
With a total of 100 beds, ELRIAH provides a comprehensive care to adults and children with hepatic diseases who cannot be safely assessed or treated in a less restrictive setting, aiming at helping patients with challenging health needs live successfully in the community while upholding ethical and legal principles of patient rights and confidentiality. ELRIAH contains the following departments; Outpatient Clinics , Medical Diagnostic & Research Laboratories, Surgery, Radiology, Endoscopy, Clinical Research, Healthcare Quality Management, Pharmacy & Publication Center.

Research interests

We have applied for more than 10 Grants with partnership with foreign European and American Partners. eg, US Partner for the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) Grant. UK-Egyptian Partnership of institutional-links-newton Fund and Egypt - Italy Collaborative Grant of STDF...

We are preparing some projects with triple collaborative countries to be submitted through HOrizon2020...

W e conduct about 5 to 6 Clinical Trials a year about different hepatic diseases.
Our scope in our research project focusing on different hepatic diseases facing our patients specially Viral Hepatitis(HBV,HCV,HDV) and Hepatic Cancer.

We are a Hepatology Specialized Research Institute and Hospital focusing on Hepatic and GI diseases specially Viral Hepatitis as we it is a huge problem with endemicity of Genotype 4 all over Egypt.. We serve about 100,000 Hepatic Patients every year.

Our Departments:
The outpatient department (OPD) has 14 specialized clinics in (internal medicine ,pediatric, oncology, surgery , psychiatry , pain management and osteoporosis ) serving more than 100 000 liver patient a year. It provides diagnosis and treatment of the following GI & Liver diseases; Hepatitis ( acute & chronic), Liver masses & focal lesions, Autoimmune Liver diseases, Metabolic Liver diseases, Liver cirrhosis & its complications.
ELRIAH Clinical and Research Laboratories are equipped with fully automated machines and divided into Diagnostic Laboratory including these units : Molecular biology , Immunology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Research Laboratory including these units: Molecular biology, Stem Cell, Flow cytometry & Tissue culture. ISO 15189 certificate is underway.
The department of radiology provides both diagnostic and therapeutic services through Ultrasound scanner, Computed tomography ( Triphasic CT abdomen and pelvis , CT portography & CT volumetry) & Interventional radiology (TACE (Trans-arterial chemoembolization) , Microwave ablation & Liver biopsy).
Endoscopy Unit provides the following services Upper endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopanc reatography & Endoscopic trasonography (EUS).
Surgery Department provides both conventional and laparoscopic surgeries; Hepatobiliary surgeries, Gastroenterology surgeries & colorectal surgeries.
ELRIAH has a large clinical research program, and is at the forefront of development of new therapies and diagnostic tests for viral hepatitis and other major forms of liver diseases. ELRIAH continues to be actively involved in institutional, national, and international research protocols with priority given to those addressing national hepatology and oncology problems. The clinical research department includes a Clinical Trials Unit which has recently participated in the clinical trials conducted worldwide to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Sofosbuvir as an oral treatment for hepatitis C, genotype 4. Additionally, Bioequivalence Unit, and Experimental Research Unit & Epidemiology Unit.
ELRIAH-Publication Center (ELRIAH-PC) publishes three journals biannually: Medical Journal of Experimental and Clinical Liver Fibrosis (MJECLF), Medical Journal of Viral Hepatitis (MJVH).
Scientific Journal of Liver Cancer Research (SJLCR).
As continuing medical education is one of the strategic goals of ELRIAH. Consequently, the University of New Mexico has selected ELRIAH to be the head representative of ECHO project in Egypt.
Project ECHO with the help of ELRIAH focuses on the implementation of a pioneering telehealth and medical distance, learning program among the Egyptian medical personnel to serve
the rural and underserved areas & Research and publications collaboration.
