Lao-American Nutrition Institute

Experience

The Lao-American Nutrition Institute (LANI) is collaboration between Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), the Lao Ministry of Health and the U.S. Government.

Research is conducted by OHSU with assistance from the Lao MoH. The U.S. Government funded and constructed the campus consisting of a clinical building, teaching building, research building and six dormitories.

OHSU is an internationally renown medical university and has been working around the world in global health and research.

Other information

Current research being conducted:

1) Validation of a nutrition risk screening tool to be implemented in all provincial and national hospitals to identify patients who are at risk or are currently malnourished upon admission.

2) Indirect calorimetry study to determine the accuracy of predictive equations and identify the best equation to use for the population.

3) Blenderized tube feeding recipe development using locally sourced, sustainable and affordable foods that provide adequate and appropriate nutrition.
