The group is currently involved in two large multicountry trials: TBHAART trial, WHO/TDR funded. The second trial is IMPI trial a collobaration with University of Cape Town, FreshAir in collobaration University Medical Center Gronigen (COPD & Air pollution, TBIRIS).

The Respiratory diseases research consortium (RDRC) comprises the Mulago National Referral Hospital Division of Pulmonary Medicine, National TB and Lprosy Program research collaboration and Makerere college of health sciences.

The group's aim is to reduce the burden of respiratory diseases through conducting high quality research in Uganda
objectives include:
• To conduct high-quality respiratory disease research, focusing tuberculosis and chronic respiratory diseases namely asthma and COPD
• To build capacity through training, technology advancement, and strengthening of infrastructure
• To link researchers and policy-makers to facilitate dissemination of research results and evidence-based health policies
• To create a sustainable network of research activities and to contribute to tuberculosis and chronic respiratory diseases control in Uganda
